Cult favorite series Tuca & Bertie revived by Adult Swim for 2nd season

After being canceled by Netflix last year, it’s been announced that Adult Swim will host a second season of the animated comedy TUCA & BERTIE! When the show flies over to its new roost, it’ll be for a 10-episode order, with the option to add more.

Hailing from ShadowMachine, the studio behind such animated hits as Netflix’s BOJACK HORSEMAN, F IS FOR FAMILY, FINAL SPACE and more, TUCA & BERTIE stars Tiffany Haddish (NIGHT SCHOOL, GIRLS TRIP) and Ali Wong (BLACK BOX, FRESH OFF THE BOAT) as bird women BFFs. Created by BOJACK HORSEMAN supervising producer Lisa Hanawalt, TUCA & BERTIE revolves around the friendship of two 30-year-old bird women who live in the same apartment building. For the show, Haddish stars as Tuca, a crass, take no prisoners toucan, while Wong lends her vocals to Bertie, a worrisome and repressed songbird. Together, the pair are fly AF, and they’re not afraid to ruffle a few feathers.

Joining Haddish and Wong for the show’s premiere season were guest stars Nicole Byer, Richard E. Grant, John Early, Reggie Watts, Tig Notaro, Amber Ruffin, Jermaine Fowler and Tessa Thompson.

When TUCA & BERTIE arrived on the scene, the series had received a 100% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Seeing as the show appeared to be a major hit with audiences, everyone, including me, were left feeling confused when Netflix failed to seed plans for a second season.

“I’ve been a fan of Adult Swim shows since my teens, so I’m thrilled to bring my beloved fowl to the party and be a new voice for a fresh decade of absurd, irreverent, yet heartwarming adult animation,” Hanawalt said today.

Huzzah! I was a major fan of the first season of TUCA & BERTIE and I am thrilled to hear that it’ll once again take flight courtesy of  Adult Swim. Much like BOJACK HORSEMAN, TUCA & BERTIE is rude, oddly emotional, and downright hilarious on all fronts. This news marks a major win for fans of the series, and I can’t wait to see what manner of shenanigans the ladies get up to upon the show’s return.
