You could also just have a secondary UV light system that switches on during overnight hours, and an positive pressure air ionizer. Instead of having door handles or control buttons, each operator can be given an RF beltpack controller as is standard for railroads. Better electrical work and application of electricity would solve the problem at a lower cost.

However, all of this would require capital investments that companies don’t want to make. It’s cheaper to lease a vehicle because they don’t want to have such stringent sterilization procedures after the pandemic is declared over.
